As the New Year approaches, here is a look back at the top ten posts of 2023.
Some honorable mentions include Piedmont Henry Hospital will be building a new patient tower, and the Georgia 20 widening began work in McDonough. Kroger resumed construction at their new Union Grove store, and the long-awaited Costco opened its doors off Jodeco Road.

1,300 Housing Units Approved Next to I-75
Vista Residential gained approval for their Reeves Creek project off Flippen Road. The project plans to construct over 1,300 housing units. Over one-thousand units are either apartments or townhomes.
County Approved State Agreement for Widening Projects
Henry County has numerous road widening projects in pre-construction work. In October, the board approved a project agreement with Georgia DOT for two additional projects. They are state route 81 widening, phase II, and Mill Road widening, phase II.
State Awards $42 Million Dollar Contract to Widen Highway 42
Georgia DOT hired a contractor to widen highway 42 between Stockbridge and I-675. Construction began this fall; it will be complete in late 2027.
IHOP Becomes Chase Bank in Locust Grove
When one door closes, another opens. In Locust Grove, Chase Bank renovated the IHOP restaurant into their newest branch location.
New Grocery Store Approved for Locust Grove
News about a new grocery store coming to Locust Grove made headlines earlier this year. The new store, expected to be a Publix, will be at highway 42 and Tanger Blvd.
Candidates for City Elections 2023
Voters were interested to know who was running for office in each city. Most incumbents would later win re-election, though a few new members will be joining the local city councils in January.
I-75 Truck Lanes Study Results
Henry County commissioned a traffic study to answer a common concern among residents: ”will Georgia DOT’s plan to construct I-75 truck only lanes make traffic worse?” The county’s consultant found the lanes will improve traffic between Bethlehem Road and state route 155. Questions remain about the traffic congestion further north — the primary source of residents’ frustrations.
Bethlehem Road Open House Presents Four Roundabout Concept
Georgia DOT unveiled the concept layout for Henry County’s new interstate exit. The planned Bethlehem Road exit, and its four roundabouts, left many with hesitation. A growing number of interstate exits use roundabouts within their design; however, the concept would be new to Henry County. The Bethlehem Road exit plans to start construction in 2026.
1 Million Plus Sq Ft Building Breaks Ground in McDonough
A new distribution building broke ground off highway 42 in McDonough. It has the potential to be one of the largest buildings in Henry County when complete.
New Restaurants & Apartments Coming to Jodeco Road
Whataburger is one of several restaurants coming to the Bridges at Jodeco development. Others include Bahama Breeze, First Watch and Salad And Go.
In addition, several new apartment complexes have been proposed in the vicinity. There are a total of six projects being discussed either off Jodeco Road or Patrick Henry Parkway.
