Several road projects are on the horizon within Locust Grove. Here are the latest updates as of November 2022.

SR 42 at Marketplace Blvd

Locust Grove is installing a new traffic light at the intersection of state route 42 and Marketplace Blvd. As of Tuesday, November 22, the signal has passed its final Georgia DOT inspection. The signal is scheduled to start its 7-day flashing period on Tuesday. Absent any issues, the new signal will start operations on next Tuesday, Nov. 29. — Dec. 1: MHF News is awaiting an update from the city on the latest.

SR 42 at Bethlehem Road

Georgia DOT has completed the design work to install a new traffic light at state route 42 and Bethlehem Road. The state will be accepting construction bids before the end of the year.

The new signal is a quick response project by Georgia DOT. This allows for a quicker turnaround time than traditional projects. GDOT will be paying for the project with the city’s assistance. The new signal could be operational by mid-2023.

I-75 at Bill Gardner Pkwy

Two major projects plan to start construction in January following the holidays. The first project involves modifications to I-75 exit 212 at Bill Gardner Parkway.

The project will be adding a second left-hand turn lane onto I-75 South. The city is accomplishing this goal by removing the sidewalk on the south side of Bill Gardner Pkwy underneath the I-75 bridge. The sidewalk on the other side of the road will remain.

In addition, the project includes adding a center median along Bill Gardner Parkway. The median extends between I-75 and Tanger Blvd. All road work will be done during overnight hours for the project.

The project will be substantially complete in summer 2023 with final completion early next fall.

SR 42 Widening

Finally, Georgia DOT is funding the state route 42 widening project. Likewise, this project will start road work shortly after New Year’s.

The widening project will add a second southbound lane on highway 42. The project extends between Bill Gardner Pkwy and Peeksville Road. Construction completion is set for summer 2024.
