Henry County is accepting construction bids for two park improvement projects. The projects consist of building a corporate/ wedding pavilion at Nash Farm Park and renovations at Mickie D Cochran Park.

Both projects will utilize SPLOST V funds for park improvements. SPLOST V began collections in 2020 continuing until 2025.

Nash Farm Park

The proposed corporate/ wedding venue will measure roughly 40’ wide x 60’ deep. The design features large sweeping arches for the roofline as well as a brick column fireplace. The pavilion will be able to seat about 200 guests when chairs are set up in rows. The county plans to build it to the right of the existing activity barn and courtyard.

The new venue is part of larger improvements at Nash Farm Park located off Jonesboro Road. They also include a new playground and updates to the activity barn. SPLOST V budgeted $3.3 million for the park improvements.

Henry County is accepting construction bids through May 4 at 3 pm. Afterwards, the board of commissioners will consider awarding a bid for the project.

Mickie D Cochran Park

Next, Henry County is also accepting proposals for renovations at Mickie D Cochran Park. This is the second time accepting bids after the first round returned only one bid above budget. Since then, the county has reduced in scope the renovation plans. They removed plans for a tennis court from the overall concept, and rearranged the football field to run north to south. The field was orientated east to west in the original concept.

Mickie D. Cochran Park is located off Banks Road in Stockbridge. The renovations seek to overhaul the older park with new features and amenities. Plans include the following:

  • parking lot with 90 spaces
  • concession stand and restroom building
  • second-level score keepers’ area above the concession stand and restrooms
  • large 30’x60’ pavilion
  • small pavilion (built at a later date)
  • large playground
  • outdoor fitness area with a shade covering
  • warm-up/ practice area
  • multi-purpose sports field e.g. football, soccer and lacrosse
  • two (2) basketball courts
  • quarter-mile paved loop trail
  • natural surface trail and boardwalk
  • small playground

The contractor is not responsible for parking lot lighting, sports field lighting, score boards or bleachers. Henry County will approve these expenses at a later date.

The county is accepting proposals through April 28 at 3 pm. Staff will review the proposals before recommending a contractor to the board for approval.

Purchasing documents, such as construction plans, are available to view on the county website.
