Voters in three Henry County districts had a BOC election in November 2024. District 1 Commissioner Wilson will serve a third term. Meanwhile, voters in district 4 have a run-off election in December. In addition, Chairwoman Harrell and District 2 Commissioner Robinson had no Republican opponent. Both defeated challengers earlier this year in the Democratic Party primary.
According to unofficial results, 130,327 Henry County voters cast ballots in the November 2024 election. This equals 75% turnout. By comparison, statewide turnout was 73.2%.
November 2024 Henry County BOC Election
Voters this year had county chair, district 1 and district 2 on their ballots. Because Commissioner Thomas resigned in the spring to run for county chair, there was an additional special election for district 4. Thomas advanced to the December runoff, alongside Interim Commissioner Price, in a bid to retake her district four seat.
Henry County Chair Carlotta Harrell (D) becomes the first person to win a second term as county chair. The county chair person was first created in the 1990s. She won the Democratic Party primary in May. There was no Republican opposition in November.
District 1 Commissioner Johnny Wilson (R) defeated challenger Demetrius Rucker (D) by 388 votes. Wilson was first elected in 2016.
District 1 represents south Henry County. It contains Locust Grove and a portion of Hampton.
District 2 Commissioner Neat Robinson (D) had no November opposition similar to Chair Harrell. She first won a special election in November 2023, then the Democratic Primary in May 2024 for the district seat.
District 2 represents north Henry County. The district has portions of Dutchtown, Stockbridge and Fairview.
Chair Harrell, Commissioner Wilson and Commissioner Robinson will serve until December 2028.
Five candidates qualified for the district 4 special election. This election is to fill the remainder of Commissioner Thomas’ term, or until December 2026. Thomas and Interim Commissioner Michael Price advanced to the run-off election. That election will be on December 3. Early voting is typically one week only for run-off elections.
District 4 represents central Henry County. It contains part of Eagle’s Landing, McDonough and Stockbridge.
