Georgia DOT is building a new road in Stockbridge. When complete, the four-lane western parallel connector will provide an alternative to I-75. Construction on the project started in August 2024.

The state department of transportation approved the project’s construction earlier this summer. Altogether, the new road represents a $55 million dollar investment.

Western Parallel Connector Construction

Georgia DOT issued the notice to proceed on August 12, 2024. This means the contractor, E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc., can start work. Since then, some land clearing activity is now visible near Jodeco Road.

E.R. Snell is building the new road for $44.7 million. The project’s estimated completion date is November 2026. Other factors, such as engineering and right of way, added another $11 million to the total cost.

The idea for the western parallel connector originates from a 2012 study by Henry County. The project aims to provide local residents an alternate route to I-75 and improved north-south connectivity. Henry County officials met with the state DOT in November 2015 to request their assistance paying for the project. The new road is being paid for by the transportation funding act of 2015.

What is the Western Parallel Connector?

The WPC will be a new four-lane road built to the west of I-75. The project is 3.3 miles in length. It will link Hudson Bridge, Jodeco and Jonesboro Roads. Because We Care Henry County shared a look where the future road will connect. Check it out below:

The project will construct four travel lanes with a center median. In addition, there will be a five-foot sidewalk for pedestrians to use. It will be on the east side of the road for the entirety of the road’s length. A sidewalk will also be on the west side of the road in the more-developed sections of the corridor, such as near Hudson Bridge and Jodeco Roads. Finally, the project will construct three bridges. They will be over Walnut Creek, Pate’s Creek and Pate’s Creek tributary.
