Motorists, heads up! Norfolk Southern will have a partial road closure on Jonesboro Road on Wednesday, May 3, for repairs. The road closure will be at the railroad crossing in downtown McDonough.

The closure affects the westbound direction only towards I-75. The work is to repair a damaged concrete plate.

Jonesboro Road Closure

Due to the road closure, motorists traveling westbound must detour. There will be a detour route directing motorists towards the Hampton Street / Georgia 20 crossing. From there, Bridges Road to Doris Street will return them to Jonesboro Road.

Another option will be McDonough Parkway between Georgia 42 and Jonesboro Road. To access McDonough Parkway, travel north on highway 42 from the town square. Turn left at the first traffic light to return to Jonesboro Road.

Once again, the road closure affects westbound traffic only. Eastbound traffic may continue as normal. The repairs are expected to last one day; the date is subject to change because of weather.

Also happening in McDonough, the Georgia 20 widening is now under construction. The project extends between I-75 and Phillips Drive. Road work will continue for about two years, or until spring 2025.
