The overlap of meetings occurs all too often, usually multiple times each month. There will be four local meetings on Monday night, April 17. Here is a look at each.

Monday, April 17

School Board

The Henry County school board typically meets on the second Monday of the month. In April, because of spring break, they shift to the third Monday. The school board meets at the district office in McDonough.

The board’s study session begins at 4 pm. The board’s regular meeting follows at 7 o’clock. Also in April, the board will have the first of two budget hearings. The school board’s proposed budget for the upcoming year is estimated at almost $500 million dollars. The budget hearing should be at 6:30 pm.

A second budget hearing will follow in May. The school board will consider final budget adoption on the same night.

County Land Use Plan

Secondly, the county land use plan update will host its first public open house. The land use plan is undergoing its five-year update. The plan determines where new housing or retail can build and to what density. Residents looking to provide their thoughts on new building within the county should plan to attend.

The open house will be at the county admin building on Henry Parkway in McDonough. The event starts at 6:30 pm. An online survey will be available after the event to collect additional feedback.

McDonough Council

Thirdly, the McDonough city council will hold their regular meeting on Monday, April 17. The council meets at city hall beginning at 6 pm.

It’s expected the council will hold a public hearing and vote whether to approve a proposed subdivision. The property is off Turner Church Road. The applicant is proposing a new 281-lot subdivision. Update: the item is not on the April 17 agenda. The request could come up in May.

Locust Grove Council

Finally, the Locust Grove council will hold its workshop meeting. The city council meets at the public safety building on highway 42. Their meeting starts at 6 pm.

On the Locust Grove agenda will be a public hearing for a new grocery store. The proposed store is at the southwest corner of state route 42 and Tanger Blvd. Other details, such as the grocery tenant, are not yet out.

Locust Grove votes on rezoning requests at the next meeting after the workshop. This is typically two weeks later. It occurs on the first Monday each month.
