The Henry County Sheriff’s Office unveiled its new helicopter during an event at Red Hawk Park in McDonough. The Sheriff’s Office received the Bell OH-58 Kiowa chopper from the Clayton County Police Department.
Clayton County upgraded to a newer chopper opening up the opportunity for Henry County to acquire it. The helicopter previously belonged to the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Sheriff’s Office Helicopter
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office paid $75,000 for the helicopter. It will operate out of the county-owned Atlanta Speedway Airport in Hampton. The Sheriff’s Office has two pilots on staff able to operate the aircraft.
“This is an absolute honor for us as we progress along at different levels of excellence in law enforcement particularly from a safety perspective. Henry County is the 8th fastest growing county in the nation. Unfortunately, with people comes progressive crimes. It’s important that we advance in our ways of policing. This will help us collectively police better in this space of growth in Henry County,” said Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett.
