Locust Grove & Stockbridge Ballot Questions
Two cities had local referendums on the ballot. Voters in Locust Grove considered — and approved — a new homestead exemption. Others in the Stockbridge area voted whether to become part of the city. The Stockbridge annexation question narrowly passed.
The Locust Grove homestead question passed 87% yes 2,798 votes to 13% no 420 votes. The homestead exemption provides for 100% relief for owner-occupied homes on any future city property tax.
Elsewhere, the Stockbridge annexation question was much closer. Based on unofficial results, the annexation passed by 53 votes: 1,076 yes to 1,033 no. Following the referendum’s passage, Stockbridge will once again become the largest city in Henry County with about 35,000 residents. In addition, the city council will move to district-based elections in 2023.
