Henry County Parks & Recreation will host a town hall meeting in October to discuss the future of Heritage Park. The meeting will be on Wednesday, October 5, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. The town hall will be at the parks & recreation office at Heritage Park on Lake Dow Road.

In 2021, the community came together to stop the removal of the historic steam engine. Now, your involvement is needed again to share the community’s vision for the park.

The Heritage Park village consists of several historic structures. They include the following: a log cabin, detached cookhouse, and an original two-room schoolhouse. The first library building in Henry County is also at the park. Due to a lack of upkeep, the buildings have fallen into disrepair. Presently, the county has fencing around many of the structures to prevent access.

Does the community support the restoration of the historic buildings and steam engine? or should the county demolish the buildings? What would restoration cost and how extensive is the work required? These are some of the questions up for discussion about the park.

Be sure and mark your calendars for October 5. Plan on attending? RSVP to our Facebook event to receive event reminders.
