Publix Super Markets is planning a new location west of I-75 in Henry County. The latest store is forecast to open in the third quarter of 2023.

Update: The store’s grand opening will be March 2024.

Specifically, the new store will anchor new commercial development at the corner of Jonesboro Road and Chambers Road. Publix and auxiliary shops will build behind the existing Shell gas station.

Publix at Walnut Creek

The new development, entitled Shops at Walnut Creek, will occupy twenty-five acres when complete. Project plans include 24,000 square feet for auxiliary shops in addition to eight outparcels. A Publix grocery store measuring 46,791 square feet will anchor the shopping center.

Publix at Walnut Creek represents the third new local Publix in recent years. The company opened in the Ola area a year ago. Their next new store will open in Kelleytown later this fall. Each new store is similar in layout and size.

Dart Retail is handling the leasing info for both outparcels and auxiliary shops.

Jonesboro Road Widening

With new development questions arise about traffic & road improvements. Henry County has a transportation SPLOST project to widen Jonesboro Road. The project extends between Mill Road and North Mt. Carmel Road.

The project is presently in the design phase. Right of way acquisition will follow. Construction on the road project should begin in 2025. Total estimated costs are $35 million dollars.
