The intersection of state route 20 at Turner Church Road in McDonough has an upcoming road closure. The closure begins on Monday, July 18, and is estimated to last one week. The closure will cover both roads, including highway 20, to allow contractors to finish the next stage of roundabout construction.

The detour route for Georgia 20 will follow both highways 81 and 212. Because the closure involves a state highway, the official detour route must follow other state highways. Local traffic may find there are other routes to navigate the area.

SR 20 Road Closure

Construction on the new roundabout began in fall 2021. Turner Church Road has been closed since November 2021 for road work. Though the project encountered a couple months of delays due to utilities, contractors are now able to finish the new traffic circle.

When driving through the location, motorists may notice the new roundabout is several feet higher than the existing Georgia 20. The purpose of the road closure is to bring highway 20 up to elevation with the rest of the project. This represents one of the final steps before the new circle can open.

The Henry County SPLOST V program is funding the intersection improvement project. Voters approved the sales tax program in November 2019. Quality Construction by McLeroy, Inc. of Zebulon, GA is building the intersection. Construction costs were valued at $1.9 million. Total project costs equal $2.05 million.
