Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Wednesday the date of the special Democratic primary election required for Georgia State House District 90. State Rep. Pam Stephenson resigned in September.

The special Democratic primary is to replace Stephenson’s name in the election. No Republicans qualified to run for the seat this year, therefore giving the win to the Democratic nominee.

The special election will take place on February 9, 2021. A run-off, if needed, will be on March 9, 2021.

The district includes part of DeKalb, Henry, and Rockdale Counties. In Henry County, the district represents part of Stockbridge, Woodland, and Union Grove.

Early voting begins on Monday, January 18, 2021. Henry County Board of Elections must adopt an early voting schedule, but I expect it to include Fairview Recreation Center and JP Moseley Recreation Center. The two sites are the most relevant to the house district out of the county’s early voting locations.

Qualifying for the seat is occurring at the Georgia Democratic Party. Their office is located at 501 Pulliam Street, Suite 400 in Atlanta. Qualifying ends on Friday, December 18, at 1 pm. The qualifying fee is $400.00.
