Elections staff are making final preparations for early voting to start on Monday, March 2, for the presidential preference primary. The lone ballot question is the Georgia primary for President of the United States.
The county’s readiness for early voting was a question raised by Commissioners Clemmons and Holmes at Tuesday morning’s budget workshop. Grayson Davis, who has been interim elections director until this week, assured the board “we will definitely have early voting ready†by Monday.
Davis continued the county’s facilities team has been hard at work to complete renovations and enlarge the space utilized for early voting at the elections office in downtown McDonough. Hutch Purvis, the county’s facilities maintenance director, added staff has added a new two-hundred amp electrical service to the building dedicated to powering election machines.
The March 24 presidential primary is the first statewide election to make use of Georgia’s new voting machines. The renovations at the elections office will improve early voting by increasing the number of available machines—as many as thirty according to Davis—and providing space for the new printers and ballot scanners.
Early voting begins the week of Monday, March 2, at the elections office in downtown McDonough and Merle Manders Conference Center in Stockbridge. The full early voting schedule, including the county’s newest site at JP Moseley Recreation Center, is available here. Voters may access sample ballots at the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page.
