Travels Tuesday: Georgia DOT awards US 19 / 41 widening

Georgia DOT has awarded a $23.6 million dollar contract to widen US 19 / 41 in Clayton County. The project will widen the highway from four lanes to six lanes between SR 54 and Tara Road south of Jonesboro, a distance of 3.32 miles.

The contract was awarded to C. W. Matthews Contracting Company of Marietta, GA.

Preliminary engineering started in 2011 and right of way acquisition occurred in 2017 for the project. Right of way acquisition and construction are funded through the transportation funding act of 2015 (HB 170).
