Early voting for the SPLOST V referendum and city council elections has now entered its second week, with polls open from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday at the Henry County Elections office in downtown McDonough and Stockbridge Municipal Court.
This Saturday, October 26, early voting will be offered from 8am to 5pm at five (5) locations:
- Elections & Voter Registration (Main Office)
40 Atlanta St. McDonough - Fairview Recreation Center
35 Austin Rd, Stockbridge - Fortson Library
61 McDonough St. Hampton - Locust Grove Library
115 M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. Locust Grove - Stockbridge Municipal Court Building
4602 N. Henry Blvd. Stockbridge
Early voting will also be offered at these same five locations next week, Monday, October 28, through Friday, November 1, between the hours of 7am and 7pm. As of Tuesday morning, October 22, one-thousand one-hundred twenty voters had participated in early voting.
Moving Henry Forward encourages all registered voters to participate in the election. The last SPLOST referendum, held in November 2013, saw 12.2% turnout. Let’s collectively make an effort to increase that turnout and improve.
The proposed SPLOST V referendum is estimated to collect $204 million over five years in local sales tax if approved. The project list is headlined by a proposed $22 million dollar aquatic center. Other countywide projects include a recreation center for the Boys & Girls Club, four police precincts, two new fire stations, two fire station rebuilds, and a fleet replacement program.
In addition to the SPLOST V referendum, city residents have an election for city council. City residents are encouraged to participate in early voting so that they may cast both ballots at one location. Those that wait until Election Day will have to visit two separate locations if they would like to participate in both elections.
